Spring Update

Hello from Rutland Water!

There’s something about the clocks changing that really sharpens the focus on the spring and summer ahead — even if the weather hasn’t quite got the message yet.

It’s been a busy and exciting month here by the big “puddle.” The fishing season is now underway, and the Fishing Lodge has been a hive of activity. We’ve also spotted more and more sailing boats out on the water — all far braver than us in this chilly breeze! That said, we’ve been treated to some truly beautiful days, and with Rutland Water still relatively quiet (especially during the week), it’s been a wonderful time to enjoy it.

We’ve also had the added excitement of welcoming the first ospreys back to the area — always a sure sign that the seasons are turning.

It really feels like the holiday season has begun, and we’ve loved welcoming walkers, sailors, and birdwatchers over the past few weeks.

What’s on this Spring?

There’s plenty happening in the local area over the coming weeks:

Sunday 26th April – The 20th annual CiCLE cycling race (180km route through Rutland and Leicestershire, starting and finishing in Oakham)

8th–10th MayBurghley Multisport Weekend, including open water swimming in the Great Lake, estate runs, and a closed-road triathlon

Enjoying Rutland for free

Of course, some of the best things to do here don’t cost a thing. The walking and cycling routes around Rutland Water are always a highlight, along with the incredible birdlife and wildlife right on your doorstep.

The surrounding fields are now full of spring lambs, and the bluebells are just coming into bloom. Our favourite spots? Barnsdale Woods and the Hambleton Peninsula — both absolutely stunning at this time of the year.
