Northern Lights at Rutland Water

On Friday night, Rutland Water experienced a rare and spectacular display of the Northern Lights, or aurora borealis, due to an unusually intense geomagnetic storm. This storm was part of a larger solar event tied to the peak of the solar cycle, which heightened auroral activity globally.

Our guests, Maggie and Craig, captured stunning photos from the garden at Snowdrop Cottage.

Joel Spencer Photography beautifully documented the event, sharing these images on his Facebook page, and you can also purchase prints of this extraordinary night on his shop here.

AuroraWatch UK and other monitoring services issued alerts for this rare opportunity, and clear skies across Rutland provided perfect conditions for viewing the Northern Lights. This is the second clear viewing of the Northern Lights over Rutland Water in recent years and we are hoping for more!
