Maybe next year!

Today the Dambuster Triathlon took place on Rutland Water which has become a well-recognised feature on the Triathlon calendar. Starting at the base at Whitwell in front of the Harbour Bar from 7am, the swim was one lap of a designated 1500m course on Rutland Water (I believe that this is the only time you are able to swim in Rutland Water each year!). The bike section then took the participants through a 42km ride through the Rutland countryside before heading back to the transition zone at Whitwell for the final stretch – a 10km run around the banks of the reservoir and across the dam. According to the organisers ‘The fact that you can see the competition for much of the run means this is a psychologically challenging course’.

This year the maximum of 1000 competitors took part, and although the Dambuster is a qualifying race for the world triathlon championships, the competition welcomes all entries from novice to elite. To enter for next year’s Dambuster Triathlon, the details can be found on the organiser’s website http://www.pacesetterevents.com/dambuster-triathlon.php. If you are participating in the 2013 Dambuster Event and are looking for accommodation, Puddle Cottage is just a short walk to the banks of the south shore of the reservoir in the village of Edith Weston and is a short drive to the transition zone at Whitwell. Puddle Cottage also allows well behaved dogs. Please contact Anna on 07734175291 or e/mail enquiries@puddle-cottage.co.uk for more details.
